Future of the English Language

From Middle English to emojis, the way we use language and symbols to communicate have changed drastically over time. What might be next for the English language? This 9-day unit for high school English language students explores the various factors that shape language and contribute to its shifts over time. Through research and applying existing knowledge of the language, students imagine the future of the language, given changes we see today and those that have yet to take effect.
